England fast bowler Steven Finn is keen to make the most of his opportunity to impress after replacing the injured Chris Woakes in their ICC Champions Trophy squad.

Middlesex bowler Finn is pushing for inclusion in the England side to face New Zealand in Cardiff on Tuesday - live on Sky Sports - after Woakes was forced out of the tournament due to a side strain.

England go into the game knowing victory would see them progress from Group A into the semi-finals of the tournament, with Finn keen to play his part in helping achieve that.

Daily Mail's Paul Newman tells Cricket Writers on TV he expects Steven Finn to go straight into England's team on Tuesday against New Zealand

Trevor Bayliss's side won their opening game against Bangladesh, while Australia and New Zealand had to settle for a point apiece after their match at Edgbaston had to be abandoned due to the weather.

"You've always got a point to prove when you have been in and out [of the team] a little bit," Finn told Sky Sports.

"You feel as though, if you get an opportunity, you want to go out there and take it, especially in a world tournament like this.

"Woakes is an excellent bowler and has been for England in white ball and red ball cricket for a long time. I am obviously taller than the other guys around, so maybe there is a different element to that.

"But it's about keeping it very simple and very basic and trying to nail what you do well and hopefully take that into the games.

"I'm going into these training days leading in the game and if I get the call beyond that then great and I will try my best for my country."

Finn also insisted he feels safe competing in the wake of Saturday's terror attack in London.

Security has been stepped up at the ICC Champions Trophy

"We're fully supportive of the security plans that are in place," he added.

"We've been briefed on how we're going to be protected ... so we're all very comfortable that there's a ring of steel around [the tournament].

"Everyone who is within the ground and we ourselves will be safe, and as long as our minds are at ease with that, we'll be right to play cricket."
