England have included five uncapped players for the Twenty20 series with South Africa and rested five international regulars, including Ben Stokes and Joe Root.

Root, Stokes, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid and Jake Ball will miss the three-game series, which starts on June 21 at the Ageas Bowl, while fast bowler Tymal Mills misses out with a back injury.

Hampshire leg-spinner Mason Crane and Lancashire batsman Liam Livingstone are called into the squad for the first time and there are also places for uncapped Middlesex batsman Dawid Malan, Somerset bowler Craig Overton and Surrey all-rounder Tom Curran.

Root, Stokes, Moeen, Rashid and Ball are all being made available to their counties for the first day-night round of the Specsavers County Championship starting on June 26.

Overton will replace Durham seamer Mark Wood, who is only available for the first of the three games, while wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow is returning to Yorkshire after the first two games are completed.

The five new players have all impressed in the England Lions set-up and the call-up could give Crane an international debut in front of his home fans.
