Harry Brook hit his maiden first-class century to upstage Joe Root and Alastair Cook on day two of Yorkshire's absorbing Specsavers County Championship clash at Essex.
Brook - who skippered England at the ICC Under-19 World Cup earlier this year - struck 13 fours and a six in a score of 124 in his side's 329 all out, with Root bowled by Ravi Bopara for 35 having fallen for a golden duck in Yorkshire's first innings of 50 on a 22-wicket day one. SCORECARD
Brook - who also failed to score in the Tykes' opening dig - shared stands of 94 and 86 with Cheteshwar Pujara (41) and Root respectively, but Yorkshire collapsed once Root chopped on, losing 7-53, with Brook caught on the long-on boundary, as Essex were set 238 to win.
However, Steven Patterson (4-21) claimed four wickets in 21 balls - Cook bowled for 26 after his duck on day one and Tom Westley pinned lbw for a pair - as the defending champions slipped to 55-4, before closing on 97-4, meaning they require a further 141 runs for victory on day three.
Surrey skipper Rory Burns, a possible contender to open with Cook for England, turned his overnight 137 into 193, batting for almost nine hours, as the Londoners racked up 434 against Worcestershire at the Oval, before Daryl Mitchell (77no) propelled the Pears to 135-1. SCORECARD
Keaton Jennings, Cook's opening partner at the start of last summer, fired for the first time as a Lancashire player with the ex-Durham man hitting an unbeaten 91 against Somerset at Old Trafford, the hosts closing on 217-2, with Dane Vilas 83 not out. SCORECARD
The bleached-haired James Anderson earlier went wicketless from his 26 overs as Somerset piled on 429, away skipper Tom Abell (99) building on day-one centuries from Marcus Trescothick and George Bartlett before being trapped lbw one run shy of a fourth career ton.
Table-topping Nottinghamshire are in charge against Hampshire at Trent Bridge - the hosts having fashioned a 215-run after bowling out James Vince's side for 223 and then easing to 136-0, with captain Steven Mullaney 82 not out and Jake Libby unbeaten on 50. SCORECARD
Stuart Broad and Samit Patel claimed three wickets apiece for Notts, while Hashim Amla (69) and Lewis McManus (66) passed fifty for Hampshire.
Warwickshire are closing in on victory over Derbyshire in Division Two - the Bears are 19-1 chasing just 89 at Edgbaston after Jeetan Patel completed a 10-wicket haul as the visitors were dismissed for 209. SCORECARD
Captain Patel claimed 6-76, backing up his first-innings 4-94, while teenage paceman Henry Brookes (4-56) bagged his second four-wicket return of the game, with Ben Slater (68) the only Derbyshire batsman to pass fifty.
Sussex are bossing Middlesex at Hove thanks to Harry Finch (103), Ollie Robinson (52) and Michael Burgess (45), who ensured the hosts scored 323 to lead by 93 on first innings. SCORECARD
Robinson, who snared seven wickets in Middlesex's first knock, continued his fine game by dismissing Stevie Eskinazi, before Dawid Malan (34no) and Nick Gubbins (22no) guided the 2016 champions from 9-2 to 64-2.
Durham are 142-7 in reply to Leicestershire's 440 all out at Emirates Riverside, with South Africa opener Aiden Markram, ninth in the ICC Test rankings, bagging a third straight duck. SCORECARD
Cameron Steel, Paul Collingwood and Stuart Poynter also failed to score as Durham tumbled to 51-6, before Graham Clark (50no) led a mild recovery.
Finally, Glamorgan lead Kent by 193 runs with one wicket remaining at Sophia Garden Cardiff, with half-centuries for Jack Murphy (54) and Australia's Shaun Marsh (76) lifting the Welsh side to 273-9. SCORECARD
Dutch quick Timm van der Gugten recorded career-best figures of 7-42 in Kent's 174 all out, bowling Ivan Thomas to add to his six scalps on Friday.
