David Wiese's second five-wicket haul of the season gave Sussex the upper hand as they steamrollered Middlesex for 138 on the opening day of their Specsavers County Championship game at Lord's.

Wiese finished with figures of 5-26 from 15 overs, ripping through Middlesex's middle order after the home side had opted to bat first - James Harris top-scoring with 38. SCORECARD

South African all-rounder Wiese was backed up by fellow seamers Ollie Robinson (3-50) and Mir Hamza (2-36), who shared the rest of the wickets to skittle Middlesex in just 43.4 overs.

Middlesex's total represented their lowest first-innings score in red-ball cricket since they posted 98 against Worcestershire at the end of 2015.

Sussex found batting far easier when they replied, with Phil Salt hitting 50 and Stiaan Van Zyl undefeated on 46 as they advanced to 169-4 by stumps to lead by 31.

Also in Division Two, Northamptonshire rallied from 61-5 to 209 all out at home to Glamorgan, thanks chiefly to former Middlesex man Adam Rossington's 77 from 114 balls.

Rossington shared stands of 86 and 49 with Josh Cobb (31) and Luke Procter (26) respectively before Northants lost their last four wickets for 13.
