Paceman to miss out after old injury resurfaces

Mohammad Asif will miss the start of Pakistan's one-day series against India through injury. Paceman Asif has suffered further damage to an old elbow injury and will not travel with the sqiad when they depart for India on Thursday. "Asif has a recurrence of an elbow injury and he will not travel to India with the team," Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi told reporters. The 24-year-old initially sustained the injury to his bowling arm ahead of the first Test against England at Lord's last year.

Aggravated

The problem then resurfaced during the home series against South Africa earlier this month. Asif missed the three one-day internationals but was risked in the fourth, where he conceded 64 runs in eight overs and aggravated the injury once more. Naghmi confirmed that the PCB would not be calling in a replacement as they hoped Asif would be fit to play after a period of rest and rehabilitation. Asif has taken 51 wickets in 11 Tests since making his Test debut against Australia three years ago. He also has 31 wickets in 29 ODIs. Pakistan will face India in five ODIs and three Test matches, starting with the first one-dayer in Guwahati on Monday.
