Stuart MacGill has started legal action against Cricket Australia and is suing his former employers for more than £1.35m over lost earnings.

Former spinner MacGill filed a writ in the Victorian Supreme Court on Monday, claiming injury payments after his retirement from Test cricket in May 2008.

The 43-year-old’s lawyers said he suffered multiple injuries during his career and has some ongoing health issues.

According to the writ, CA failed to pay MacGill around £870,000 while he was injured and unable to play. He is also claiming almost £500,000 in interest.

"We are aware of the media reports but aren't in a position to comment further," said a CA spokesman.

MacGill, who claims he was forced to end his 44-Test career due to numbness in his hands, knee and shoulder pain, took 208 Test wickets at an average of 29.02.
