Glen Chapple insists he is not thinking about being 25 wickets away from reaching 1000 in first class cricket.
Lancashire’s new first team coach said he would relish playing again if needed but is focused on his new role.
The 41-year-old, who is playing in his 24th county season, told Sky Sports News HQ: “With the milestone it is particularly important. But I tend to put pride in performance over that really.
“Twenty five seems quite a way off so I don’t want to get carried away.
“If I get selected will just be trying to help out as best I can.
“I’ve still got an element that I can play. If I get a chance to play, I will try my best to do myself justice.”
And Chapple, who made his debut in 1992, said he has enjoyed using his experience to help the bowlers.
“It’s really exciting for me with a new position," he said.
“I’ve loved trying to help the boys in the winter working with some of the bowlers.”
