Leicestershire batsman Matthew Boyce has announced his retirement with immediate effect.

Boyce, 29, was the Foxes' longest-serving player after playing 104 first-class matches for the county and hitting six centuries for an average of 27.89.

He has left the game to set up his own wealth management firm and his place on the playing staff has been taken by 21-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Michael Burgess, who has signed a short-term deal with the county having recently featured in the seconds.

"I'd like to thank the club, including the coaches, support staff, players and supporters, for making my career in cricket so enjoyable," said Boyce.

"Although it is not easy knowing I am not going to play again, I'm excited about the next chapter in my life and taking on a new challenge.

"I've been coming to Grace Road for 20 years and nothing would make me happier than seeing my current team-mates do well in the future. Finally, I'd like to thank my family and close friends for all of their help and support."
