Somerset cruised into the Royal London One-Day Cup semi-finals with a nine-wicket victory over Worcestershire at Taunton.

Needing just 211 to win, Mahela Jayawardena made an unbeaten 117 as the hosts eased over the line with 13.1 overs to spare.

Moeen Ali had continued his good form with the bat to top-score for Worcestershire, making 81 from 76 balls at the top of the order, but his dismissal sparked a collapse that saw the visitors lose their final seven wickets for just 55 runs.

After losing three wickets in the first 10 overs, Worcestershire recovered as Ali and Daryl Mitchell (64) put on 113 for the fourth wicket.

Somerset veteran Peter Trego (3-33) accounted for both of them though and Worcestershire crumbled to be bowled out for 210 inside 43 overs.

That never looked like enough and Jayawardena and Jim Allenby quickly showed that that was the case, putting on 188 for the first wicket.

Allenby was eventually out for 81, hauling out to deep midwicket from Ali (1-53), but Jayawardena and Trego (10no) soon finished the job.

The opener was eventually dismissed by Ashar Zaidi but some hefty blows by Laurie Evans (70no) saw the hosts reach 283-7 in their 50 overs - Graham Napier taking 3-60 for Essex.

In reply, Essex made a flying start though Nick Browne (39) and Tom Westley before the former was stumped off the bowling of Javid, ending a 75-run partnership.

It proved a turning point in the innings as Essex lost another five wickets in quick succession to slip to 134-6, Westley (61) was the last of those to fall, giving Poysden his third wicket.
