Former Warwickshire seamer Tom Allin has died at the age of 28.

Bideford-born Allin was on the staff at Edgbaston for six years but made only two appearances in their first team, spending most of his time playing for the second XI.

He returned to his native Devon at the end of the 2013 season and made a handful of appearances for the county as well as playing club cricket for North Devon.

Asked about reports of Allin's death a Devon and Cornwall police spokesman said officers had responded to an incident on the A39 River Torridge Bridge on Monday night at 9pm where a man aged in his late 20s died as a result of injuries in what they described as a "non-suspicious incident".

A statement from Jason Ratcliffe, assistant chief executive of the Professional Cricketers' Association, read: "We are saddened to learn of Tom Allin's death. He was a popular member of the playing staff at Warwickshire and a valued member of the PCA.

"Our condolences go to Tom's family, particularly his father Tony who is also a PCA member from his own playing career with Glamorgan in 1976.

"We also extend our sympathy to North Devon Cricket Club, Tom's home club. The PCA will offer support to Tom's family and former team-mates at this difficult time."
