Welshman moves to St Lawrence Ground on two-year deal

Kent have moved to strengthen their batting options by signing former Glamorgan batsman Michael Powell on a two-year contract. The 34-year-old was released by the Welsh county at the end of last season after 14 years with the club. He will help fill the gap left at the St Lawrence Ground by the summer departures of key batsmen Joe Denly and Martin van Jaarsveld. Powell made a total of 212 appearances for Glamorgan and amassed 25 first-class centuries, while also passing 1,000 runs in a season five times during his time at the SWALEC Stadium.

Positive impact

"I am looking forward to making the move to Kent," Powell stated. "I'm extremely pleased to have signed this contract with the club. "I hope to make a positive impact next season and look forward to the challenges ahead at Kent County Cricket Club." Kent chairman of cricket, Graham Johnson, added: "We are delighted to be able to announce that Michael will be coming to Kent. "He has had a very successful career with Glamorgan, and still has much to offer county cricket. We look forward to his contributions for the club over the next two years."
