South African star has high hopes for county

Wayne Madsen has signed a new three-year deal with Derbyshire and is looking forward to exciting times with the county. The 27-year-old South African batsman made his debut for the county back in 2009 and broke the record for the highest score by a Derbyshire debutant - an unbeaten 170 not out against Gloucestershire. Madsen, who has captained the county on four occasions, has since gone on to make 3,664 runs in all competitions and in 2011 he recorded his best figures for the Falcons in the shorter formats of the game with a total of 794 runs. He said: "I am delighted to commit to Derbyshire for three years and very excited about the future of the club. "We have played some really good cricket in 2011 and I'm looking to help build on that with a young and exciting squad during the next few years. "My wife and I have settled into the Derbyshire area very well and I am proud to be representing the county."
