Glamorgan captain Jacques Rudolph will look to lead from the front as the Welsh side start their county cricket season keen to put last year’s disappointment behind them.

New Glamorgan captain Jacques Rudolph outlines the county's goals for the upcoming season.

Rudolph will captain the side for the first time when they face last year’s wooden spooners Leicestershire at Grace Road on Sunday.

“We do start off with a blank canvas,” Rudolph told Sky Sports News HQ. “From last season, we’ve lost quite a few players, I think five or six.

"But I think we’re quite fortunate that we have people like Colin Ingram, who has got a wealth of international experience, and is joining our ranks.

“I think we’ve got a very good core group of senior players who are quite energetic about where we want to take this team so hopefully we can go some places this season.”

Ingram, 29, has joined Glamorgan on a three-year contract. The left-handed batsman has 40 caps for South Africa and will add a much-needed level of experience to a young Glamorgan squad.

“Our squad is not very big but it does allow people opportunity and responsibility, so I’m really looking forward to the challenge,” Rudolph said.

“The guys have had quite a long pre-season and there’s a good vibe and energy going in the squad at the moment so hopefully we can put that to good use.”
