Somerset all-rounder Craig Overton says his style of batting is similar to Ashes absentee Ben Stokes

Craig Overton is confident of emulating Ben Stokes if given the chance to start for England in the Ashes.

The 23-year-old is yet to make his international debut, but the all-rounder could be called upon to fill the gap left by the absent Stokes and will get his first chance to impress the selectors on Saturday after being selected in the 13-man squad to face Western Australia XI in a two-day warm-up match.

With so much of the pre-tour focus on the team's discipline and the notable absentee, it's understandable that comparisons are already being made between Overton and Stokes, but the Somerset man says he's not feeling the pressure.

"Stokes is probably a little bit of a better batter than me, that's one thing I'm trying to work on to try and get similar to him," said Overton. "Our bowling is pretty similar, so when I get the opportunity to bowl it'll be similar sort of skills to Stokes. With the bat, I'll try to replicate him as much as possible.

"I've got the skills to bat and hit it quite hard, that's the way I like to play. I'm not one to hang around and get those sort of runs, I like to hit boundaries."

Off the field, England's discipline and behaviour is being closely monitored following the fallout from the Stokes affair, but Overton insists the players are aware of their responsibility on tour and will continue to have fun.

"It's about making sure that we still have fun out here and that we're in control of what we're doing," he said. "We don't want to be in school again.
