Former bowler believes Pakistan can open up the Australians
Waqar Younis believes Pakistan have what it takes to dismantle Australia and secure a prized series win.
The former paceman has been appointed
bowling and fielding coach for the three-Test series beginning in Melbourne on Boxing Day.
Waqar, who took 373 Test wickets, considers the current Australian team as susceptible, with Pakistan capable of capitalising on their vulnerability.
He said: "I believe we have a team that is capable of beating Australia for the first time in a Test series.
"Australia are definitely beatable at the moment, but Pakistan's players need to put in a lot of hard work and commitment.
"It's an important series because if you do well against Australia you reach the top of the world."
Improvement
Pakistan are currently playing the
third and final Test against New Zealand - with the series locked at 1-1 after the tourists recovered from a poor first Test.
The team's fielding came in for severe criticism during that defeat with Waqar admitting there was room for improvement.
He said: "Our bowling is fine, but we are weak in the fielding department,
"We need to show lot of improvement and this is something I want to work on very closely with the players."
Waqar also felt Younus Khan's absence would be felt in the upcoming series.
"He has a great record in Australia and his experience and batting skills are invaluable, but we have to manage without him now."
