Off-spinner doubtful of recall despite display in Sheffield Shield
Out-of-favour spinner Nathan Hauritz sent a message to the Australia selectors by taking a five-wicket haul in a Sheffield Shield match for New South Wales.
Hauritz claimed figures of 5-39 from 27 overs against Western Australia in Perth to end a run of poor form that has seen him lose his place in the Test side for the start of the Ashes.
He was left out of the squad for the first Test in Brisbane in favour of Xavier Doherty and was not included in the 13-man squad for the second match of the series in Adelaide.
But despite his impressive turnaround at domestic level, Hauritz is not expecting to be immediately recalled at the first opportunity.
Call-up
''I've said all along I got dropped because I wasn't bowling as well as what they wanted. I have to go back and improve from there,'' he told the
Sydney Morning Herald.
''(If) the call-up happens, it's great, but if it doesn't, it's not going to be the end of the world.''
Whether or not he is handed a recall to the Australia side, Hauritz is happy to be back in the wickets after his recent barren spell.
''It's always nice, the individual rewards. They're few and far between in this game. There's definitely not as many good days as bad, as they say,'' he said.
''It's good to be bowling well again, that's the most important thing. If I'd taken four wickets instead of five, I still would have been over the moon with the way the ball came out.
"The bowling figures show it. I was able to build pressure up, and recently I haven't been able to do that. It's always a positive thing to be able to bowl maidens and build pressure but to be taking wickets at the same time is very good."
