Readers call for Surrey paceman to make Ashes bow

Skysports.com readers and bookies expect Chris Tremlett to replace the injured Stuart Broad in the third Ashes Test. Broad was ruled out of the rest of the Ashes series after suffering a torn abdominal muscle during the second Test. He will be sidelined for up to 10 weeks and will also miss the seven-match one-day series against Australia which follows the Tests. Surrey paceman Tremlett has emerged as the favourite to replace Broad for next week's third Test in Perth ahead of Tim Bresnan and Ajmal Shahzad. The 6ft 7in bowler was a surprise inclusion in the Ashes squad and has not played a Test for three years but impressed in a warm-up clash against Australia A and is expected to suit the bouncy wicket at the WACA. In our readers' poll, more than 43 per cent believe the former Hampshire man will get the call as Broad's replacement. Bresnan attracted 25 per cent of the vote and Yorkshire team-mate Shahzad trailed behind Monty Panesar with 14 per cent of the poll. Bookmaker Sky Bet make Tremlett their 4/9 favourite to start with Bresnan and Shahzad both 7/2 shots and Panesar 25/1. Sky Bet's head of cricket trading, Jason Colley said: "Tremlett is the obvious choice to replace Broad. He is a similar type of bowler, able to get good bounce and will be suited to the WACA pitch. He was also impressive in the practice match against Australia A, taking seven wickets." To bet on the third Ashes Test now, click here.
