Finn named in World Cup squad

Seam trio Stuart Broad, Steven Finn and Chris Tremlett have all been named in England's provisional squad for the World Cup.

Cook, Prior, Patel included in provisional 30-man party

England Test seamers Stuart Broad, Steven Finn and Chris Tremlett have all been named in the provisional squad for the 2011 World Cup. Finn has yet to play in a limited-overs match for England while Broad is hoping to recover in time from the abdominal strain that ruled him out of the Australia tour following the second Test. The 30-man squad - which will be cut in half on January 19 - also includes Test opener Alastair Cook and Matt Prior, one of three wicketkeepers named, while there is also the possibilty of a recall for all-rounder Samit Patel. Uncapped quintet Jade Dernbach, Chris Woakes, Darren Stevens, Jimmy Adams and James Hildreth are also included in the initial list.

"Steven Finn and Chris Tremlett continue to impress with their development after strong performances domestically and with the England team at international level," said national selector Geoff Miller. "Samit Patel has also been included in this preliminary squad and - along with every other player named - will be required to meet individual fitness criteria before the squad is finalised. "There is still some time to pass before the final squad is selected, so all 30 players have sufficient time to press for selection." England are drawn in a group alongside Bangladesh, India, Ireland, Netherlands, South Africa and West Indies. "We have selected a squad of players with a strong track record in limited-overs cricket, either for England or in the domestic game," added Miller. "Recent series have shown we have made progress in one-day cricket, and we will be looking to continue this form during next year's World Cup and challenge for another global title." They will play two warm-up games against Canada and Pakistan before beginning their World Cup campaign on February 22 against Netherlands in Nagpur. Provisional 30-man squad for 2011 World Cup:
