Batsman retains captaincy in one-day and Test sides
Misbah-ul-Haq has stepped down as captain of Pakistan's Twenty20 team, with batsman Mohammad Hafeez taking over.
However, Misbah will remain in charge of the one-day and Test teams for the tour of Sri Lanka starting in June.
The touring team will play two T20 internationals prior to a five-match one-day series, with three Test matches to conclude the six-week trip.
Misbah, who turns 38 later this month, is regarded as two old to lead the shortest format of the game in the wake of the team's 2-1 defeat to England in February.
He was also left out of the 16-man T20 squad.
"Misbah has been a great leader and he will remain captain for the one-days and Tests, but after consulting Misbah, we have decided to appoint Hafeez as new captain for the Twenty20," said PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf.
The selectors recalled fast bowler Mohammad Sami to all three squads and middle-order batsman Faisal Iqbal was brought back into the Test team.
Rookie wicketkeeper Shakeel Ansar impressed selectors in the recent domestic Twenty20 event and will wear the gloves initially, while Sarfraz Ahmed and Adnan Akmal will keep in the ODIs and Test matches respectively.
"The whole world is experimenting with different teams for different formats of the game, and that's what we are doing now," Ashraf said. "You need players of different temperaments for all the three formats."
