Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli hit centuries to hand India the initiative on day two of the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle.
In reply to Sri Lanka's first innings total of 183, the tourists moved from their overnight total of 128-2 to 375 before they were all out just before stumps
Sri Lanka were then reduced to 5-2 from four overs by the close of play in their second innings as the Indian spinners removed both openers in the first two overs.
Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who opened the bowling after taking six wickets in the first innings, bowled Dimuth Karunaratne (0) with his fifth delivery before a run had been scored.
Leg-spinner Amit Mishra then bowled Kaushal Silva (0) for no score in the following over to leave Sri Lanka trailing India by 187 runs at stumps.
Kumar Sangakkara (1no) and night-watchman Dhammika Prasad (3no) will return to the crease on Friday with Sri Lanka facing an uphill battle to save the match.
Left-handed opener Dhawan (134) hit 13 fours as he top-scored for India, with Kohli contributing another 103. The pair put on 227 runs for the third wicket after India had slumped to 28-2 after tea on the first day.
India were cruising at 255-2 when Sri Lanka hit back with four quick wickets to make it 302-6. But wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha smashed a career-best 60, featuring six boundaries and a six to boost the total.
Off-spinner Tharindu Kaushal (5-134) was the pick of the Sri Lanka bowlers with seamer Nuwan Pradeep claiming 3-98.
