Australia keen to match India's aggressive approach

Adam Gilchrist defended Australia's conduct during the 84-run victory in the second one-day international against India on Tuesday. Gilchrist, leading the side due to Ricky Ponting's hamstring injury, described the game as 'hard fought' and denied any of his players had taken their aggression too far. The match featured several flashpoints, Andrew Symonds and Brad Haddin - who shared a 108-run, fifth-wicket stand - were both involved in verbal exchanges with India's excitable seamer Shantha Sreesanth. And as India slid towards defeat, Harbhajan Singh appeared unhappy with something that was said following his dismissal, umpire Steve Bucknor eventually intervening to usher him off the ground. "I saw some really hard fought cricket," said Gilchrist. "There were some comments between different players and that happens. "I also saw a few things that I wouldn't expect from my son Harrison in a backyard game of cricket. "There is no doubt the way Sreesanth wants to play cricket. When we get our chance, we'll play aggressive cricket too."

Excited

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was quick to play down the incidents involving Sreesanth. "Sreesanth was heated up but he's changed over the last six months," said Dhoni. "He was playing in front of his home crowd and got excited." The opening game of the seven-match series was washed out, meaning Australia take a 1-0 lead into Friday's third instalment in Hyderabad.
