Former England leg-spinner looking for a new county

Former England leg-spinner Ian Salisbury has been released by Surrey. After being given a new 12-month contract at the close of the 2006 season the 37-year-old has been told the deal will not be renewed for next year. Salisbury, who played 15 Tests for England, has no intention of retiring and is now on the lookout for a new county. He said: "I really want to keep playing as I feel I still have the ability to play first-class cricket. "It will be a bit sad that it won't be at Surrey but it will also be an exciting opportunity for me if it is to be somewhere else."

Success

Salisbury, who began his career at Sussex, has spent the last 10 years at Surrey and won the County Championship in 1999, 2000 and 2002. Surrey captain Mark Butcher said: "Sals played a major role in the Surrey success story from 1998-2002. "Sadly it is time to say goodbye to yet another member of that great team and it is with fond memories, goodwill and our best wishes for the future that Ian moves on to another phase of his life."
