Ace spinner returns to happy hunting ground
Saqlain Mushtaq is returning to Surrey for 2008 after signing a two-year deal with the county.
The former Pakistan spinner was a popular member of the successful side of the late-90s, winning three championship titles in four years.
The 30-year-old, who is now English qualified, took 384 wickets in 80 matches, at under 21 apiece in nine seasons at the Oval, and will fill the void left by the recent departure of Ian Salisbury.
"It is with great pleasure that we welcome back a Surrey legend," said cricket manager Alan Butcher.
British passport
"Saqlain, as Surrey fans know, is a proven international quality spinner.
"To be securing his services as a local player is a huge bonus and I can't wait to watch him weaving his magic in 2008."
Saqlain applied for a British passport earlier this year, and as a European Union qualified player is 'English' in terms of his registration.
A knee injury two years ago appeared to bring the player's career to a premature end, but he proved his fitness in a short stint for championship-winning Sussex this year, taking 18 wickets in four matches.
