Hilfenhaus drafted in to squad for first Test at the Gabba
An elbow injury has forced Shaun Tait to pull out of Australia's squad for the first Test against Sri Lanka.
The fast bowler picked up the problem while playing for his state side, South Australia.
Tait had elbow surgery back in May but team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris insists the latest setback is not too serious.
Tasmania seamer Ben Hilfenhaus has been called up a replacement to the 13-man squad for the opening match of the series in Brisbane.
Disappointing
"It's disappointing for Shaun to have suffered a slight aggravation to his elbow in the lead-up to the first Test," Chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said.
"Whilst this is disappointing for Shaun, it creates an opportunity for Ben Hilfenhaus to come into the squad.
"Ben richly deserves his opportunity after a magnificent Sheffield Shield season last year.
"He also impressed all with his involvement around the Australian squad in the one-day international series in India last month."
Hilfenhaus is unlikely to make his Test debut at the Gabba as Australia also has Brett Lee, Stuart Clark and Mitchell Johnson in their squad.
After the game at the Gabba, which gets underway on Thursday, the two teams move onto Hobart for the second Test.
