Zimbabwean has had no contact with new man Peter Moores
Former England coach Duncan Fletcher insists he has done nothing wrong in writing about Andrew Flintoff's off-field antics in his new book.
The Zimbabwean wrote in his autobiography, "Behind The Shades" that the all-rounder had turned up to a practice session during the Australia tour still intoxicated after a night out.
That was followed by the now infamous 'Fredalo' incident at the World Cup when Flintoff was disciplined for being out late following a defeat to New Zealand.
Fletcher told
Sky Sports News that he decided to keep quiet at the time but feels the time is right to "clear up a few of the contentious issues".
Bite your tongue
"A lot of the time as a coach you have to sit there and bite your tongue," he said.
"I just wanted to clear up a few of the contentious issues that have been building up for some time.
"The Pedalo affair was a difficult time for me and I link that to the incident in Sydney. There's a definite link to the two affairs."
Flintoff, who is yet to comment since the book was serialised in a national newspaper, is currently recovering after a fourth operation on his troublesome ankle.
His former coach admits the Lancastrian is a key players to England's long-term plans, providing he can get back to full fitness.
Very important
"He's a very, very good cricketer and a useful member of the England side," the former Glamorgan coach said.
"Most sides in world cricket have got to have a decent all-rounder, and he's a more than decent all-rounder. He's very important for England."
He also confirmed that he has not been in contact with Peter Moores, the man who took over the coaching duties following his departure from the role.
"I haven't (been in contact)," he added.
"From my point of view I think it's important you don't want to impose yourself on them.
"I think they've done well at the moment. That win in Sri Lanka was a very good win and I hope they can maintain that progress."
