South African reprises role as tournament director

Steve Elworthy has been appointed tournament director for the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 in England. Former South Africa all-rounder Elworthy, 42, performed the same role at the inaugural global Twenty20 tournament in his home country earlier this year. ECB chief executive David Collier said: "Steve produced an outstanding event in South Africa and he is the ideal candidate to lead the event in England and Wales in 2009." Elworthy, who had stints in county cricket with Lancashire and Nottinghamshire, added: "The 2007 event was a festival of world-class cricket which captured the imagination of the world - my goal is to ensure that the 2009 event is even more successful."
