Sri Lanka will bring in Upul Tharanga to replace the retired Sanath Jayasuriya for the second Test against England in Colombo.
Tharanga was in the squad for the first Test but did not make the starting XI, but in Colombo he will open the batting alongside Michael Vandort.
Tharanga's inclusion is the only change to the squad from the first Test, meaning that middle-order batsman Jehan Mubarak keeps his place despite twice failing in Kandy.
"The middle order is a bit of a concern, but we have to be fair to the youngsters and give them a decent run," skipper Mahela Jayawardene said.
Tharanga's return to Test cricket at the Sinhalese Sports Club marks his first inclusion for Sri Lanka since July when he faced Bangladesh.
Tharanga made 86 and five in the tour match against England but it was not enough to earn him a starting spot in the first Test.
Bowling attack
Left-arm seamer Sujeewa de Silva and leg-spinner Malinga Bandara retain their places in the squad, but Sri Lanka will probably stick to the same attack as in Kandy, with three seamers and Muttiah Muralitharan as the only spinner.
The retirement of Jayasuriya does leave them short of a second spinner if Bandara is not selected.
"The bowling combination will depend on the pitch but knowing the Sinhalese Sports Club it will probably be three seamers and Murali," said Jayawardene.
Sri Lanka won an enthralling first Test by 88 runs in Kandy, and the skipper is keen for them to keep up the momentum in Colombo.
"We have got to take forward the confidence we got with the win in Kandy," he said.
"It was a confidence booster for us for the rest of the series and we should not lower our guard and allow England to come back."
