England Test captain feeling rejuvenated after lengthy break
Michael Vaughan insists the split captaincy is working to his benefit as he prepares to jet out to New Zealand.
The England captain was relieved of the one-day captaincy following Peter Moores' appointment as coach after the World Cup.
Paul Collingwood has led England's young side to one-day series victories against India and Sri Lanka since taking over at the helm and helped guide the team to two Twenty20 wins at the start of their tour of New Zealand.
Despite slumping to consecutive Test series losses to India and Sri Lanka Vaughan says he is feeling fresh ahead of the three Tests against the Kiwis, which start on March 5.
Progress
"New Zealand do look weak but you've still got to play well and I think in the two games we've looked very positive," Vaughan told
Sky Sports News. "The batsmen have played well, the skill levels look very high, the bowling looks like we've got plenty of variation and we look like we're playing as a unit.
"They know they'll probably be tested a little bit more in the 50-over format if New Zealand can get Daniel Vettori and certainly Jacob Oram back in the side, but if they keep developing those skill levels they should be fine.
"I'm not getting any younger but I feel very fresh. This period of time away from cricket, not having to go to New Zealand too soon, gives me a great opportunity to get really fit.
"I've trained very hard since I've got back from Sri Lanka, working on my batting, working on all areas of my fitness so that when I get on the plane on Wednesday evening I'll be rejuvenated and looking forward to a successful tour."
