Former England one-day player named South Africa performance coach

Former Leicestershire spinner Jeremy Snape has been named as South Africa's performance coach for their tour to England. Snape, who made 10 ODI and one Twenty20 international appearances for England, only left the Foxes this week. However he has earned a contract with the Proteas having impressed captain Graeme Smith while working as the performance coach of Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. And although Shane Warne won a lot of praise for the Royals winning the title, Smith insists Snape's role was pivotal. Smith said: "I worked with Jeremy in the IPL and he will be a big asset to us this summer and in the future. "Shane Warne got a lot of accolades for the Royals winning the competition but Jeremy's back-room contribution was also a key part. He added a lot of value then and he can play a key role for us now." South Africa coach Micky Arthur confirmed the appointment of Snape, adding the he would continue in the role for the tour to Australia. Arthur said: "Jeremy Snape is joining us as a performance coach. He worked and played a big part for the Rajasthan Royals and Graeme Smith was very impressed. "He had immense value in that set-up and we now see him playing a major part for us as performance coach. "He will be with us for the forthcoming series with England on an ad hoc basis before coming to us in a full-time capacity for the tour after that of Australia."
