Notts bowler keen to cement his side in England side
Darren Pattinson is hoping for another chance to prove himself on the international stage after making a shock debut in the first Test defeat to South Africa.
Pattinson's inclusion came out of the blue after the Nottinghamshire bowler was called-up as an 11th hour replacement for Ryan Sidebottom at Headingley.
And although his call-up has caused some controversy -
with captain Michael Vaughan stepping in to defend the Grimsby-born seamer - Pattinson was pleased to have won his first cap.
"It's happened a few times in my career when I've been picked out of nowhere - and at the moment I feel that anything is possible," said Pattinson, who took 2-95 off 30 overs.
"It's been a big week for me, and obviously I was nervous at first. But I relaxed as it wore on, and in the end it turned out okay.
Tough
"It was a bit tough walking into the dressing room for the first time, but the guys welcomed me with open arms.
"The first wicket was a bit lucky, because the replays showed that it might have just missed the stumps. But I got the ball to move a bit and had (Ashwell) Prince caught behind."
Sidebottom is likely to come back into the side for the second Test, with Steve Harmison, Matthew Hoggard and Simon Jones all knocking on the door of the selectors.
However although Pattinson knows he has areas to improve on, he is determined to cement his place in the side.
"I've got things that I need to learn about the game and I know that my next chance might not come straightaway - but I'd like to think that I can be involved again further down the track," he added.
