Hayden also a doubt; Clarke steps in as skipper

Ricky Ponting has failed to recover from a wrist injury in time to feature in Australia's one-day international series with Bangladesh. The Australia skipper was left out of the 14-man squad announced on Friday, with vice-captain Michael Clarke stepping in to lead the side for the three-match series starting on August 30. Opener Matthew Hayden, who did not play a game on Australia's tour of the West Indies earlier this year due to an Achilles tendon injury, also faces a race to be fit in time to tackle the Tigers. Despite being picked in the squad, a decision on Hayden's fitness will be made in the next fortnight, Cricket Australia said. National selection panel chairman Trevor Hohns, explained: "His progress has been monitored closely by our physiotherapist and doctor and his overall participation in the series will be determined as we get closer to the date.

Ronchi out

"The NSP has reserved the right to add a 15th player into this squad should this become necessary." Hayden's absence would leave Shane Watson and Shaun Marsh, who both performed commendably against the West Indies, battling to open the batting. Brad Haddin replaces Luke Ronchi behind the stumps after missing the ODIs in the Caribbean due to a broken finger. The series against Bangladesh will be followed by the ICC Champions Trophy where Australia will begin their tournament against India on September 13. Squad: Michael Clarke (c), Michael Hussey (vc), Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clark, Brad Haddin, Matthew Hayden, James Hopes, David Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Shaun Marsh, Andrew Symonds, Shane Watson, Cameron White.
