Gayle still a force

Chris Gayle, winner in 2006, is making waves again in this year's Sky Sports International Sixes League.
Sky Sports International Sixes League
Former winner Chris Gayle has not given up hope of reclaiming his 2006 Sky Sports International Sixes League crown quite yet. After a relatively quiet year by his standards, he suddenly came to life in the final of the Scotiabank Tri Series in Canada. He slammed six sixes in his whirlwind century to move into third place overall. One crumb of comfort for defeated finalists Canada is that they appear to have unearthed a big hitter of their own. Rizwan Cheema has already hit 12 sixes of his own in his first three One Day Internationals. However, this week saw the long-standing world record for sixes in a One Day innings beaten by Gayle's West Indian team-mate Xavier Marshall. On August 22, playing against the hapless Canadians, he launched 12 hits over the boundary - to beat the previous record of 11 - shared by Sanath Jayasuriya and Shahid Afridi, which had stood since 1996.| SKY SPORTS INTERNATIONAL SIXES LEAGUE Latest standings - as of 20 August |
