England off-spinner agrees two-year contract extension

Northamptonshire have secured the services of Monty Panesar for a further two-years after the England spinner penned a new deal on Sunday. Panesar, 26, revealed his excitement at the prospect of playing for both England and Northamptonshire in what are sure to be watershed summers in 2009 and 2010. The Ashes will be the highlight next year, with the inaugural English Premier League Twenty20 tournament starting for the counties in 2010. "I am really happy here at the club, and especially enjoy working with David Capel and the coaching staff," said Panesar. "There are exciting times ahead for English cricket with the Ashes tour next year, and also for Northants cricket, and I am pleased to be a part of it." Northamptonshire chief executive Mark Tagg is delighted to have secured the services of the left-arm spinner, who began his career with the county in 1999. "Monty is a key member of our plans going forward, and we are all delighted he will be continuing his association with the club," said Tagg.
