T&T skipper relishing opportunity

Trinidad and Tobago captain Daren Ganga feels the Stanford Super Series will be of great benefit to his side. Ganga leads his men in the opening match of the lucrative Twenty20 competition against the Stanford Superstars - a West Indian select XI - in Antigua on Saturday. The West Indian Twenty20 champions will then face their English counterparts Middlesex Crusaders in a match worth £200,000. The highlight of the six-game series is the £10 million ($20m) encounter between the Superstars and England - who also have warm-up games against Middlesex and Trinidad and Tobago - on November 1. "We realise that it's quality opposition we will be coming up against," Ganga told the Antigua Sun. "It is not against regional teams anymore. "It's virtually two international teams in the West Indies (Stanford) Superstars and England, and then we have a top club team from England in Middlesex.

Competitive

"So it is going to be very competitive. "We are very excited playing in this series and I think it is a good benchmark to know where our cricket is at in terms of us being a regional team with young players taking on international players." Ganga believes his team are well prepared for the opening game even though they are short of match practice. "We are very excited," added the 29-year-old. "I think Trinidad and Tobago have prepared well. "We have done a lot of preparation for this new season. "We were supposed to play the regional 50-overs competition before the Super Series but unfortunately that didn't come off so we had to change gear and get straight into Twenty20 mode."
