Former fast bowler appointed joins NZC
Former fast bowler Geoff Allott has been charged with driving New Zealand cricket forward.
The 36-year-old, who was the equal highest wicket taker at the 1999 World Cup, has been appointed to the new role of general manager of New Zealand Cricket (NZC).
The position was created in a recent restructuring and Allott will oversee cricket operations and the coaching, management and selection of the New Zealand national side and other elite teams.
His appointment precedes the announcement of a new national coach to take over from John Bracewell, with Matthew Mott, who is currently coaching New South Wales, considered the front-runner for that job.
New Zealand Cricket chief executive Justin Vaughan said Allott's role was critical.
Track record
"Geoff brings a track record of achievement, both as a respected international cricketer and through his recent experience building and managing a successful business," Vaughan said.
"This is an important new role for NZC. Geoff will be pulling together our high-performance cricket areas, driving world-class performance and ensuring we reach our strategic goals."
Allott played 10 Tests and 31 one-day internationals for New Zealand between 1996 and 2000.
