Shoaib Akhtar is among five pacemen selected in Pakistan's squad for the one-day international series against West Indies in Abu Dhabi. The 33-year-old is available pending a Lahore High Court hearing into his 18-month ban for a series of disciplinary breaches. He made his international comeback following nearly a year out at last month's quadrangular Twenty20 tournament in Toronto. Rao Iftikhar, Umar Gul, Abdul Rauf and Sohail Tanvir are the other fast bowlers included in the first Pakistan squad to be named since Intikhab Alam succeeded Geoff Lawson as coach. "The team was selected after giving due consideration to the opinions of both captain and the coach," chief selector Salim Jaffar told the Associated Press. "It's an experienced side and we have kept India's tour to Pakistan (in January) in mind."

Yousuf doubts

Mohammad Yousuf was named in the squad, but his participation is in doubt after reports emerged that he had signed for the rebel Indian Cricket League. The experienced batsman faces a life ban from the Pakistan Cricket Board if he plays in the unsanctioned Twenty20 league. "Once we get written confirmation from the PCB we will name his replacement but it is likely that Khalid Latif will take his place," added Jaffar. Opener Nasir Jamshed has been picked in the 15-man party but must prove his fitness following a bout of malaria. The three-match series is being held at Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Stadium on November 12, 14 and 16. The matches are taking place in the United Arab Emirates due to security concerns that currently deter most teams from touring Pakistan.
