Red Rose county see off competition from rival counties for batsman
Lancashire have strengthened their squad with the signing of batsman Adrian Shankar on a two-year contract.
The 23-year-old has been handed a long-term deal after playing in the county's second XI at the end of the 2008 season.
The former Middlesex academy member put his cricket career on hold until 2006 to complete a law degree at Cambridge University (Queen's College).
After representing the MCC, and also featuring for Kent's second team last season, Shankar is looking forward to life at Old Trafford.
Welcoming
"I know competition for places will be fierce, but that is healthy for the club," he said on Lancashire's official website.
"I had a positive spell in the second XI this year, and the senior players were very open and welcoming.
"The coaches and the facilities at Old Trafford mean that the infrastructure is available for me to develop and become an important part of Lancashire's future."
Lancashire cricket manager Mike Watkinson was delighted with his latest recruit who had attracted interest from several other counties.
"Adrian is a quality young batsman who fills a gap in our player development programme," he added. "He has attracted interest from a number of other counties, which confirms his potential."
