India captain backing 35-year-old to come good

India are set to keep faith with Rahul Dravid at number three in the order, despite his current poor run of form. Dravid's struggles with the bat - he has only scored two half-centuries in his last 19 Test innings - have prompted chairman of selectors Krishnamachari Srikkanth to hold talks with the former skipper. But despite increasing calls for Dravid to be dropped after he managed just seven runs in the first Test victory over England, India are set to stick with the same team that won in Chennai. And although the temptation is there to drop Dravid down the order and promote VVS Laxman, captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has backed the 35-year-old to come good. "I think it is a matter of time, once he passes that 30-run mark the confidence would start," said Dhoni. "That initial period, he is not able to pass that. But we have confidence in him, he will get runs at some time. "It looks easy...shifting Rahul to number five and VVS to number three, but imagine Laxman gets a good ball and gets out. There is already pressure on Dravid and all of a sudden there are three wickets down. "Batting at number three it is only one down on the board, it gives him the freedom to play his natural game."
