Skipper staying focused despite unrest in the old enemy's camp
Ricky Ponting has resisted the urge to revel in England's recent turmoil ahead of the summer Ashes series.
The departures of coach Peter Moores and fledgling captain Kevin Pietersen following a public bust-up at the turn of the year has left Australia's old enemy in serious strife.
Andrew Strauss has since been appointed skipper for the upcoming Caribbean tour, while the search for a permanent successor as coach continues.
But rather than rejoice in England's misfortunes,
as the Australian press have been doing, the Baggy Green's captain has been busy trying to fix on his own team's problems against South Africa.
"I'm surprised at some of the events of the last couple of weeks," Ponting said on
Sky Sports News.
"To tell you the truth I haven't followed it that closely. We have been trying to fight ourselves out of some pretty intense battles against the South Africans over the last few weeks.
"But all I know is that both of those guys have moved on from the roles that they were in and that's about it. There hasn't been a lot of discussion in our dressing room even.
"I don't know a lot about him [Strauss] either. I don't know what he'd be like as far as the leadership is concerned."
Having lost the Test series against the Proteas 2-1 the Aussies came back to claim a 2-0 victory in successive Twenty20 internationals and will expect to maintain their momentum in the One-Day International series that follows.
England head to the West Indies meanwhile for a four-Test and five ODI tour, which gets underway on February 4.
