South Africa coach fails to quash speculation

Mickey Arthur is refusing to rule himself out of the England head coaching vacancy. Arthur, currently employed as coach of South Africa, is believed to be the England and Wales Cricket Board's top target. The 40-year-old has overseen Test series wins in England and Australia since taking charge of the Proteas in May 2005. He was given the chance to refute speculation linking him with the England vacancy but instead said: "Coaching England is a huge job and I find it very hard to believe that any ambitious coach would rule himself out completely."

Under contract

However, he warned: "But I must stress again that I am under contract until 2011. I am very happy in my job and I am absolutely committed to the South African national team. "A year ago my situation was very different to how it is now, and I wanted an agency to apply on my behalf for positions which they thought would be suitable and of interest. "I have never tried to hide my ambition to work in county cricket one day. Nobody has approached me or spoken to me from the ECB or on their behalf." Peter Moores was sacked as England head coach in January following a breakdown in his relationship with captain Kevin Pietersen, who also lost his job. Andy Flower, Moores' batting coach, has taken over on a temporary basis during the tour of West Indies and is also a contender to take the role full-time.
