Worcestershire bowler recovering from knee surgery

Worcestershire bowler Simon Jones will be out of action for up to six weeks after undergoing knee surgery on Thursday. It is the second time in eight months the former Glamorgan paceman has had such an operation, having also received treatment for a troublesome knee last September. Jones has not represented England since the fourth Test of the 2005 Ashes series but impressed with the ball for his new county last season. However, this latest injury setback may deprive him of the opportunity to stake a claim for an international recall when Australia returns this summer. "Simon Jones underwent key-hole surgery this morning under the care of his surgeon Andrew Williams," Jones' management company Wasserman Media Group stated. "Contrary to reports this was a planned procedure following diagnosis by Worcestershire medical staff during the county's pre-season camp in South Africa. "Simon will immediately return to training with Worcestershire with a view to attaining match fitness within six weeks."
