Pace ace believes he could have achieved more for England

Andy Caddick believes he could have achieved more in his England career if he had been given the right support from his early Test captains and coaches. Caddick recently announced that he will retire from the sport at the end of this season. The 40-year-old has 1,178 wickets to his name during an illustrious career which brought him 234 Test victims in 62 matches. Despite the success Caddick admitted his international career did not always go as smoothly as he would have liked.

Strong

Caddick said: "You will always have regrets. You can't control selectors or captains, and I don't think I always got the backing from them that I deserved. "I started at the same time as Graham Thorpe, and he went on to achieve 100 Tests. I'd love to have reached that milestone, but it wasn't to be. "It wasn't until Duncan Fletcher and Nasser Hussain took charge that I felt I was really backed for what I was trying to do." Caddick's also explained his decision to retire from the sport "I wanted to call time while I was still physically and mentally strong, rather than playing for the sake of it," added Caddick "Retirement had to be on my terms, not anyone else's. Somerset are still in with a chance of winning the championship for the first time this season, and that would be a perfect way to bow out."
