Batsman brought into South Africa A team for warm-up match

Herschelle Gibbs has been drafted into the South Africa A squad for a warm-up match against England in Potchefstroom. The veteran batsman was excluded from the full Proteas party for the first three one-day internationals against England. However he has been given an international lifeline with the A team after being called up as a replacement for the injured Henry Davids. The 35-year-old, who is one of three new faces to be drafted in alongside Andrew Puttick and Rory Kleinveldt, could strengthen his chances of a recall by appearing in the 50-over encounter against the tourists.

Excellent form

"Herschelle has shown excellent form in recent MTN40 matches," said Mike Procter, convener of selectors. "This match will give him a further opportunity to press his case for an international recall. He is showing the consistency we want from him and his last innings was a match-winning century. "The door is not closed to him or indeed to anybody else who produces the goods in domestic cricket. "Both Puttick and Kleinveldt impressed for the Nashua Cape Cobras in the Champions League competition." Robin Peterson and Ryan McLaren have dropped out of the match, with selectors fearing McLaren could suffer from exhaustion. Meanwhile, Peterson is set to sign a Kolpak contract with Derbyshire, ruling him out of any Cricket South Africa (CSA) representative teams. Revised South Africa A squad: Hashim Amla (captain), CJ de Villiers, Dean Elgar, Herschelle Gibbs, Rory Kleinveldt, Heino Kuhn, Morne Morkel, Andrew Puttick, Rilee Rossouw, Rusty Theron, Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Vaughn van Jaarsveld.
