Pakistan all-rounder critical of auction process

Pakistan's Twenty20 captain Shahid Afridi has revealed his frustration at the India Premier League's auction regulations. Players with existing contracts such as Sohail Tanvir and Kamran Akmal were barred from competing in the tournament by the IPL because they had missed a deadline, but it was announced by the league last week that non-contracted players could partake if they are bought at an auction next month. The IPL has revealed that several Pakistan players have made themselves available for the auction, but Afridi has hit out at the process. "I don't want to be in a position where I myself have to send in a request that my name be included in the auction," said Afridi. "I'm not saying I don't want to play in the IPL, but I think I deserve better because of my age and seniority. "I would be happy if my name is included directly in the auction or if a franchisee bids for me directly." Afridi represented the Deccan Chargers in the first edition of the tournament last year, but his contract was terminated ahead of the second edition, which was moved to South Africa because of security concerns. Pakistan's government refused to consent to its players' participation in the second edition of the league in April this year due to the Mumbai terrorist attacks.
