South African batsman Neil McKenzie has joined Hampshire on a Kolpak contract for the 2010 season. McKenzie, 34, has played 58 Tests and 64 one-day internationals for the Proteas and can bat anywhere in the top six. He has a liking for English conditions, having starred on South Africa's 2008 tour and in previous county stints with Durham and Somerset. "I'm really looking forward to playing for Hampshire," McKenzie told Hampshire's official website. "I know it's a great club - one with great expectations of itself - and it will be exciting to be part of it."

Revamped

McKenzie is the latest recruit of a busy winter for Hampshire, who had already brought in Shahid Afridi, Kabir Ali, Simon Jones and Ajantha Mendis for next season. Giles White, the county's first-team manager, added: "Neil is a highly experienced and effective batsman who brings great presence to the club both on and off the field. "We need strength in depth to sustain a realistic challenge in modern day cricket and I am satisfied that we now have that in all key departments. "No doubt, Hampshire supporters will warm to him very quickly and I hope he and his family enjoy the Hampshire experience this summer."
