Interim coach to lead Proteas until April 2011
Interim South Africa coach Corrie van Zyl has been appointed to lead the Proteas until after the Cricket World Cup next year. The 48-year-old, who stepped in as interim coach following the resignation of coach Mickey Arthur in January, will stay in charge until April 2011, Cricket South Africa have announced. A new structure proposed by CEO Gerald Majola to provide the Proteas with a strong management team has also been endorsed by CSA, with Majola set to compile a process of appointing the new system, to be implemented from May next year. The board disbanded the national selection committee following Arthur's departure last month, with convenor Mike Proctor, Craig Matthews, Mustapha Khan and Winkie Ximaya all relieved of their posts. The new process will seek to establish a new selection panel, while Majola, Van Zyl and Proteas batting consultant Kepler Wessels will continue to operate in the meantime. The new panel will feature a convenor, the national coach, the captain and a high performance representative. Objectives
"These decisions were made with the goal of streamlining the selection and management processes around the Proteas as one of the main objectives of getting the squad back on top of the world logs and staying there," said CSA president Dr Mtutuzeli Nyoka. "The Proteas deserve the very best support and CSA wants to take time to formalise a management structure that supports excellence and innovation. "At this time, we are of the opinion that Corrie van Zyl be kept on as interim coach, until the end of the 2010/2011 season, to take us through an incredibly busy period for the Proteas." The CSA also announced that Graeme Smith will retain his role as Proteas captain until April next year, while Jacques Kallis will be his vice-captain in all forms of the game for the same period as part of an expanded squad of 22 nationally contracted players.Contracted South Africa players for 2010/11: Graeme Smith, Jacques Kallis, Hashim Amla, Loots Bosman, Johan Botha, Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Paul Harris, Charl Langeveldt, Ryan Mclaren, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Makhaya Ntini, Wayne Parnell, Alviro Petersen, Ashwell Prince, Dale Steyn, Rusty Theron, Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Roelof van der Merwe.
