Pakistan appoint fourth chief selector in eight months
Former Test batsman Mohsin Khan has been appointed as Pakistan's chief selector.
The post became vacant following the departure of Iqbal Qasim, who resigned on January 31 in the wake of Pakistan's winless tour of Australia.
"Mohsin Hasan Khan has been appointed as chairman of the selection committee with immediate effect," Wasim Bari, the Pakistan Cricket Board's chief operating officer, told AFP.
Mohammad Ilyas, Salim Jaffer and Azhar Khan will continue as regular members of the selection panel while Asif Baloch and Farrukh Zaman are to be co-opted members of the committee.
Mohsin, 54, who played 48 Tests and 75 one-day internationals from 1978-1986, is delighted with his new job.
"I will finalise my strategy once I meet the chairman of the board," he said.
"I have a passion to serve Pakistan cricket and will do my best to select players on merit."
His first task will be to select a squad for Pakistan's World Twenty20 defence in the Caribbean in April and May.
