India swing bowler Zaheer Khan will play no part on day two of the first Test against England at Lord's due to a hamstring injury. But Zaheer, who took two wickets and was the pick of the bowlers on a curtailed opening day of the eagerly-awaited series, could yet return later in the match. He was being assessed overnight and it was confirmed he was suffering from a hamstring strain. He took no part in the morning practise and didn't take the field when play resumed on Friday morning.

That means wicketkeeper and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni may bowl after Rahul Dravid did some drills with the gloves prior to the start of play. Dhoni started behind the wicket but may opt to utilise his own part-time medium pace at some stage. A statement issued by the Indian side read: "Zaheer Khan had strained his hamstring during the course of the first day's play. He is undergoing treatment which is being administered by the team physio. "He may be unavailable to bowl in the first innings but is likely to be fit to bowl in the second innings."
