Gary Anderson reacts to winning his second World Darts Championship

Gary Anderson admitted he felt the physical strain after retaining his World Darts Championship title with a 7-5 win over Adrian Lewis.

The 45-year-old Scotsman became became only the fourth player to successfully defend their first ever world title.

Anderson visibly stretched out his arm on a number of occasions during a high-scoring encounter, featuring 34 180s, a new world record.

Asked whether he can complete a hat-trick, Anderson told Sky Sports: "It would [be] lovely you know, but I'm getting older, the body is starting to hurt, but Ady will lift this title more than a dozen times,  

"He's got all the time in the world. Us older ones, it's running out but we'll keep plodding on, we'll give it a good shot next year."

Ending with an average of 99, the champion produced a stunning 170 checkout to move one leg from victory.

But Anderson was still fiercely critical of his own performance, and insisted that he and Lewis are capable of more prolific scoring.

"I'm playing a good friend of mine and it never happened tonight," he said. "It was a scrape from the word go.

"There was some good darts and some really bad ones. I'm getting old, I'll take the scrapes.

Anderson produced a stunning 170 checkout to move one leg from victory

"I'll have to ask Adrian Lewis what it feel likes, but the way I've played and Ady has played - we turned up tonight and it just never happened. It kind of killed the game but I've got it for another 12 months at least."

Reflecting on his 170 finish, he said: "Best three darts I threw of the match."
