Phil Taylor suffered a 4-3 defeat to Jelle Klaasen

Sixteen-time world champion Phil Taylor insists he has no plans to quit darts in the next year.

The 55-year-old was responding to comments from Raymond van Barneveld following Taylor's surprise 4-3 defeat to Jelle Klaasen in the third round of the World Championship on Wednesday.

Van Barneveld claimed 'The Power' produced a "tired" display at Alexandra Palace, and reckoned Taylor may be on his way out of the sport.

But Taylor has taken the opportunity to rebuff the claims on social media, and vowed to work on his form.

Taylor stated: "2016 not retiring gonna work hard to come back stronger #not finished".

Van Barneveld, who defeated world No 1 Michael van Gerwen on Tuesday, has questioned Taylor's appetite for further success.
